The good news is that the city has now decided to replace our sewer line on their dime and run an extra line out to our property so we can be on a different line than our neighbors. We have to run a line from our house to the city's line, but it will be well worth the money (until the next flood.) So for now we cleared out an area of our basement to use as a living space, and we'll keep everything unfinished until our new sewer line is done and we can afford to redo everything.
A few days after that disaster, I made a nice dinner of chicken and mashed potatoes and rolls, which is a very rare thing around here. As we sat down to dinner, the carbon monoxide alarm started going off. We ran some fans and tried to ventilate the house, then scarfed down our food because I was not going to let all that work go to waste. Finally we called the fire department and went and sat in our car in the driveway while the policeman, fire department, and ambulance all came out to our house to check things out. Thank goodness it turned out to be some debris or something touching the battery of the alarm that caused it to go off, but it was still quite the unwanted adventure.
And now we're just waiting for this baby to come any day. Everything has to go smoothly for that, right? But amidst the madness, we're all healthy, safe, and doing well, and what more could we ask for?
