I Dig, Thefore I Hurt

I thought Jake's title was so clever on his post, so I thought I'd be a copycat. Today I dug in my garden for about 3 hours. I actually don't hurt, but I am so tired. After I finished I could barely get up the energy to do anything else. Plus I am sunburned!
Last year I had no clue about anything to do with gardening, so I made some square foot gardens, which are like very large planter boxes for a garden. I actually really love the concept, but this year I went to an incredible gardening class and found out about how the roots on most plants go at least 2 or 3 feet deep, and up to 10 feet for tomatoes and melons. So this year I am taking the weed cloth off the bottom of my boxes, digging up underneath, adding peat moss and compost, putting my boxes back, filling them with the original nice dirt mix from last year, and adding compost, sulfur, and fertilizer. I have already dug at least 10 hours, and I am about halfway done. It may have been easier with a rotatiller, but too late now.
I have already planted an entire box of peas. Last year I had no luck with peas, so hopefully this year will be better.

Here is my semi-successful attempt at gardening last year, to explain the square foot gardening.

I am so impressed! I was so impressed last year--way to go! My mom is really excited about her garden this year too because of the class. I'm guessing it will be another year that I don't do it, but maybe the gardening bug will bite me yet.
