Yesterday our insurance adjuster finally came out to assess our mess, and they are going to pay for everything to be fixed. Hurray! (Minus a pretty substantial deductible.) What a relief. We have been very nervous this past week wondering if they would pay or not.
We have heard a lot of nightmares about insurance companies and floods this past week. So, I would check your insurance to see how they handle sewage backup into your house. Some companies pay only if it happens directly inside your house, not on a sewage line, some only if a tree root caused the backup, some only if it's not a tree root that caused the backup. Some only pay if the flooding happened from something in your house, like a toilet or a water heater, and not if it's through a drain. What a mess. Our neighbor said that they had specifically bought flood insurance on there house, and when the water come into their basement, they found out their flood insurance did not cover basements. Can you imagine? Their main floor was 5 feet above ground!

Actually, overflow is covered, and backup suggests that it is a city problem.
I'm glad that we can have these conversations with each other. ;-)
